Graduate in Romance Languages from the University of Oviedo and in Philosophy from the University of Valladolid. Spanish language and literature teacher in Toledo, she was also the director of the Cervantes Institute in Toulouse.
She has published the following books of poems: El tercer jardín (1986), Exposición (1990, Ícaro prize for Literature), Ella, los pájaros (1994, Leonor Poetry Prize), Caza nocturna (1997), Del ojo al hueso (2001), La poesía, ese cuerpo extraño (anthology) (2005), Y todos estábamos vivos (2006). Esa polilla que delante de mí revolotea. Poesía reunida (1982-2008) compiles all her poetry to date.
She also wrote the biographic essay Teresa de Jesús (2001), texts for catalogues and art shows and numerous works on literary expression.
She has translated two books by Pier Paolo Pasolini and, alongside Monika Zgustova, a broad anthology of work by Anna Ajmátova and Marina Tsvetáieva, El canto y la ceniza. Antología poética (2005). She co-directs the magazine Los Infolios since 1987; she was a founding member and belonged to the editorial board for El signo del gorrión (1992-2002); she was also a member of the permanent commission for the Spanish-Portuguese journal Hablar/Falar de poesia (1996-2002). Her poems have been compiled in prestigious anthologies of modern poetry and translated into many languages. In 2007 she was given the National Poetry Prize for Y todos estábamos vivos.
