Juan Madrid earned a degree in Contemporary History from the University of Salamanca. He then went into teaching and worked as a journalist for a number of Spanish and international media organisations from 1973 to 1995. Since 1995 he has dedicated his time exclusively to writing. Madrid is a novelist, film and television screenwriter, documentary maker and one-time film director (T�nger). He also teaches classes in narrative technique and screenwriting at the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Ba�os, Cuba, as well as other schools and institutions in both Europe and the Americas.
Juan Madrid's first novel, Un beso de amigo, was published in 1980. Since then he has published forty books, including novels, collections of stories, and novels for young readers. He is considered one of the foremost exponents of the new detective or European urban novel. His work has been translated into sixteen languages.
